The coffee capsule,

which consists of 100% renewable raw materials

The sustainable Rezemo coffee capsule

The wood for our rezemo coffee capsules comes from sustainable, PEFC-certified forestry . We use wood fibers from waste products such as sawdust.

Our coffee capsule has a bio-based carbon content of 100% (test number: 8C150). We therefore hold the seal of the current top category "bio-based > 85%".

Our coffee capsule does not contain any fossil plastics. This means it is free of persistent microplastics - even during decomposition, no persistent microplastics can be produced thanks to 100% bio-based ingredients.

The ecological added value of our coffee capsules

55% fewer emissions...

... compared to aluminum capsules.

In collaboration with worldwatchers.org , we have succeeded in making a first independent statement about the CO2 emissions caused by the rezemo coffee capsule. The result, taking into account all relevant production steps of the various components as well as all logistics steps, is clear: the rezemo capsule can save at least 55% of CO2 emissions compared to an aluminum capsule.

26% fewer emissions...

...compared to fossil plastic capsules.

Compared to a plastic capsule produced using petrochemicals, at least 26% of CO2 emissions are saved. The CO2 emissions from the disposal of plastic capsules are not included in this value. Since plastic capsules rarely end up completely empty in the yellow bag , the recycling rate is low and the majority are banned. If these emissions are also taken into account, a much higher value can be assumed. ( worldwatchers.org )

A natural cycle

Since we only use renewable raw materials that come from the natural cycle, we minimize the footprint of our capsule. The product cycle from value creation to recycling is thus significantly optimized from a CO2 perspective. ( worldwatchers.org )

1. Natural material made of wood

Wood is a great raw material - available in abundance here and therefore does not need to be imported. If it is managed sustainably in our forests, we will never run out of it. When building and furniture wood is produced in sawmills, large quantities of sawdust and wood shavings are produced. At rezemo, we use this residual product as a raw material for our coffee capsules, thus creating an additional value-added level for this great natural material.

2. Binder made from plant starch

Of course, we don't carve our coffee capsules from solid material - that would cause a lot of waste. That's why we use PLA, a bioplastic made from natural plant starch. This plant starch is obtained from corn and sugar beet. Our PLA is biodegradable. Thanks to this unique and innovative combination - our forewood material - our capsules decompose faster than other bioplastic packaging.

3. Environmentally friendly production

Our capsules made of forewood material are shaped by injection molding . The material is processed using heat and high pressure. Injection molding allows us to completely avoid the creation of production waste. It is important to us that the production of the coffee capsules is also environmentally friendly. That is why we pay attention to short distances and produce our entire product in Germany.

4. 100% organic meringue

The result is the innovative rezemo coffee capsule , which is certified by DIN CERTCO in the top category with the test result "100% bio-based" (test number 8C150). We are the leading provider of sustainable coffee capsules. Of course, we think holistically - our sustainable coffee capsules protect the coffee aroma and our outer box contains neither aluminum nor plastic. We also ship our products with DHL GoGreen.
